Encaustic painting involves creating imagery using a mixture of beeswax, damar resin (for hardness and stability) and pigment. Each wax layer has to be fused to the lower one to ensure a cohesive piece. It is a technique from ancient Greece and has evolved over the centuries to include mixed media techniques as well. Photographic images can be transfered to the wax or embedded in the wax layers. Embedding lace, string, and fabric etc can produce wonderful effects.
